Arthur Andrew Vandeveer was born June 21, 1880 in Whiting, Jackson county, Kansas. He was the son of Margaret Jane "Janie" Ware and Joseph Long Vandeveer.

He attended grade school at Highland Center, Dawes county, Nebraska which is about 20 miles southwest of Chadron, Nebraska. He can be found listed on the School Census of Highland Center, District # 53, from 1892 thru 1897.

On May 11 1893, his mother passed away in Pine Sumit, Dawes County, Nebraska where his father was engaged in farming. His father then married Nannie May Alexander in 1894 and later moved to Scandia, Republic County, Kansas where he continued to be engaged in farming.

Arthur can be found in Illinois serving in the military according to the U.S. Army, Register of Enlistments, 1798-1914.

On May 14, 1905, he married Anna Betty Chriss in Nebraska. Together they had 7 children: Joseph born in Mississippi; Mammie born in Kansas; Emma, born in Kansas; James, born in Illinois; Rose, born in Missouri; Alice, born in Wyoming and Lola, born in California. Joseph is listed in the 1910 U.S. Census but is not listed in the 1930 U.S. Census as are the other 6 children.

He initially engaged in farming near Fairbury, Nebraska but eventually moved to California where he can be found in the 1930 U.S. Census. He was employed in the movie industry as a laborer. During the last 2 years of employment he worked as a security guard for the War Department.

Arthur died on April 10, 1959 in Los Angeles, California at the Los Angeles General Hospital and is buried in the Woodlawn Cemetery, Santa Monica, California.
