I.P. Dawson, aged 79, died Saturday morning at the home of his son, A.C. Dawson, of R. 1, Washington, Wood County. Mr. Dawson had been in poor health for several years, suffering from cancer.
Mr. Dawson spent a large part of his life as a resident of Wirt County, as a farmer on Standing Stone and also as a resident of Elizabeth until nine years ago when his wife died and his home burned, his family life was broken up. Since then he lived with his children.
Mr. Dawson was a member of the Baptist Church from a youth on, and his life was consistent with his professon. He was held in high esteem by all who knew him.
He is survived by four sons, W.A. and E.U. Dawson of Lost Creek, W.Va.; W.H. Dawson of Farmington; and A.C. Dawson, Rt. 1, Washington, at whose home he died; three daughters, Mrs. C.D. Valentine, R. 2, Elizabeth; Mrs. J. D. Tennant, Fairview; and Mrs. Okel Layfield of Marion county; five brothers, D.G. Dawson of Macfarlan; N.J., E.C., J.A. and C.C. Dawsonk all of Parkersburg; two sisters, Mrs. Rachel Haught of Hartley, and Mrs. M.A. Hefner of Parkersburg; twenty-nine grandchildren and twenty great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held from the Elizabeth M.E. Church, South, Sunday afternoon with Rev. A.F. Monroe assisted by Rev. Riggs, officiating.
Interment beside his wife in the K. of P. cemetery, W.M. Pomroy, Undertaker in charge.
