HODGES, WILLIAM CECIL - age 78, of Seymour, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 1997, at his home. Born in Sevier County, Boyds Creek community. Longtime resident of South Knoxville. Retired from Alcoa Aluminum Company with 42 years of service. Member of Providence Baptist Church. Proud veteran of WWII, 802nd Tank Destroyer Battalion. Participated in five major campaigns of the European, African and Middle Eastern Theater including Battle of the Bulge and Normandy Invasion. Preceded in death by parents, Thomas and Nellie Hodges; and brothers, Theodore and Paul Hodges. Survivors: devoted and loving wife of 49 years, Charlotte Strevel Hodges; daughter and son-in-law, Patricia and Gene Lay; son, William Hodges, Jr.; son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Terri Hodges; grandchildren, Rachel Proctor and husband Brad, Jake Lay, Travis Hodges; brothers, Hubert, Winfred, Wiley and Ray Hodges; sister, Martha Patterson. Graveside service 2 p.m. Saturday at Woodlawn Cemetry with Rev. Dallas Gibson officiating. Pallbearers will be nephews. Memorials may be made to the Providence Baptist Church Building Fund, Seymour, Tenn. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Friday at Berry Funeral Home, Chapman Hwy.
