LAST RITES MONDAY FOR W. J. HOSEY
Final Tribute Will be Paid Former Mayor; Death Comes Late Friday
Funeral services for William J. Hosey, aged 83, former Mayor of Fort Wayne for four terms who died Friday afternoon at 4:40 o'clock at St. Joseph's Hospital, will be held Monday morning.
Arrangements for the funeral had not been completed early this afternoon. However, funeral services will be held at the Ankenbruck Funeral Home probably at 8:30 a.m. to be followed by services at 9 a.m. in either the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception or St. Jude's Catholic Church. Pallbearers were to be selected late today.
The body may be viewed at the funeral home by friends after 7 p.m. today. The family has requested omission of flowers.
STRICKEN LAST SATURDAY
Mr. Hosey, whose home was at 2501 Kensington Boulevard, was brought to the hospital last Monday from his summer home at Sylvan Lake, Rome City. He suffered a stroke of apoplexy while walking near his Summer home last Saturday night and received a fractured hip in a fall when stricken.
He was first stricken with a light stroke of apoplexy last November but had recovered rapidly. Mr. Hosey was well enough before his ?? stroke to work in the yard of his Summer home as late as last Friday, members of the family said.
WAS MAYOR FOR 17 YEARS
Mr. Hosey served as Mayor a total of 17 years during his four terms. No other man has approached this record of number of years as Mayor of Fort Wayne. Mr. Hosey was first elected Mayor in 1905. He was reelected in 1913, 1921 and November 5, 1929.
Outstanding civic developments during Mr. Hosey's terms as Mayor include building of ?? units of the City Light & Power Company Plant, the Three Rivers City Filtration Plant, start of track elevation, flood control work on the city's rivers including construction of the dam in the Maumee River, ?? of the Barr Street ??? , and purchase for the site for the municipal airport.
