John was a clerk and preacher in the Methodist church church. He was able to play the violin. John, was an employee, under his brother, Henry Adams, at the Refuge Insurance Company in England; which according to a new found relative, is still thriving today, being one of the largest. John became a branch manager in Sheffield.
His wife, Mary, left him and the children in about 1856, for the United States. John later married the widow Catherine Robinson Oxley. He died at the home of his daughter, Jane, 19 Station Road, Eckington, Derby, England.
