Since moving to Alberton Dr Ballard made thousands of friends among his fellowman and neighbors. Practically everyone in the county knew him as honest, friendly and congenial during personal contacts as well as professional. The popularity of the deceased did not cease at the borders of his home community, but extended to all surrounding counties and the state. During Dr Ballard's practice of medicine he stored his supply of drugs near his home so that he might be able to render efficient and able service to those who were in need. Being a friend of the needy, he contributed not only his service, but gave medicine to those who were unable to pay, never expecting to receive even the value of his investment. No greater friend has a man ever had than a person who would risk his health, home, happiness to render what assistance he could in time of illness. This is to be truthfully said of Dr Ballard.
