David B. Alwine, 56, New Oxford R. 1, died at the Hanover Hospital at 3:40 this morning. He had been hospitalized Friday evening, having been under the care of a physician for some time. A native of Adams County, he was a son of the late Percy E. and Myrtle N. (Rohrbaugh) Alwine.

He was employed as a foreman by the Victor Cushwa Corp., Williamsport, Md., and was a member of the First Lutheran Church, New Oxford, and the Greater Hanover Creative Arts Guild.

He had served in the Army during World War II, from June to September, 1945, and was a graduate of New Oxford High School with the class of 1934.

Surviving are his wife, Violet E. (Trone) Alwine and five daughters, Mrs. Jay Trimmer. Lewisberry R. 1; Mrs. Michael L. Greenawalt, York; Mrs. Robert J. Doolan, Jr., Storrs, Conn; Wanda G. Alwine and Marti K. Alwine, at home.

Also surviving are ten grandchildren and six brothers and sisters: Arthur E. Alwine, Spring Grove; Mrs. Ethel M. Bean, Hanover; Philip E. Alwine, New Oxford; Mrs. Virginia Sweigart, Hanover; Mrs. Aubrey Merchant, Lebanon, and Mrs. Elmer Keller, Greencastle R. 1.

His son David Alwine II, was fatally injured New Year's Day when his small car struck a utility pole north of the Richmond Ave. bridge in West Manheim Twp., York County.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon from the Feiser Funeral Home, New Oxford, with his pastor, the Rev. Harry Bowman, officiating. Interment will be in the New Oxford cemetery. Friends may call Saturday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock at the funeral home in New Oxford.
