John Stanton "Staley" Burris' father, Thomas Burress is the name given on his father's 15 Jan 1902 death Cert. that is on file with the Washington, Indiana Health Office in Book H-18 Pg. 55 produced by Indiana Works Progress Administration. Thomas' death was in Plainville, Daviess Co., Indiana. Thomas Burress and Sarah Donaldson are the names given in John's parents 9 Feb 1839 marriage record.
Albert Leslie Burris' marriage application, gives his father's name as John Stanton Burris. Staley would be a nickname.By the time that John Stanton "Staley" Burris had died, the family's surname had transitioned to Burris as is reflected on John's headstone. That same transition of surname is true of my 2nd great grandfather CPL. William Burress and (his son) my great grandfather, James A. Burris . Per MLT
