The Lathrop family farm was famous for its abundant amounts of fruit and berries.
Cyrus was a member of the State Assembly for Crawford County (Democratic Party). He ran as a good clean man and a farmer people could trust. He won in a landslide.
Over the years he served as town chairman, county board member, chairman of the county road and bridge committee and assemblyman from his county.
His house burned in 1910 but was rebuilt.
In 1941 Cyrus had a stroke and died within 48 hours. He never regained conciseness. Casket bearers were Edwin Phillip, Roy Rider, William Oswald, Thomas Chunat, William McCarthy, and Ray Geisler.
He had twelve children and ten surviving at his time of death.
