From the LaFollette Press, Thursday, October 19, 1950:

{Transcribers Note: The Press has radically different spellings of Mr. Baird's first and middle names than what someone has submitted here. I'm leaving the spelling exactly the way the newspaper obituary originally spelled them}

"L. Miller Baird, Aged Resident Died Saturday"

Campbell County will be missing one of its most prominent residents with the passing away of Louis Miller Baird. Mr. Baird died Saturday at his home in Jacksboro at the age of 90. Widely known and respected for his many activities in civic government in Campbell County, he had served many times as a member of the County Court and as highway commissioner, and Trustee of this county. He was largely responsible for the rapid deployment of the natural resources in the County and was Vice President of the Elk Valley Coal And Land Company. Born in Elk Valley, Tennessee, during the Civil War period on June 8, 1860 his knowledge was invaluable to all residents in connection with the value of real estate and business problems. He was the son of Rev. Jesse Baird, Baptist minister, one of the original pioneers of this section of Tennessee. Mr. Baird leaves four sons and four daughters, Dr. A. A. Baird of Caryville, J. B. Baird, Campbell County Tax Assessor of Jacksboro, J. L. Baird, Campbell County Deputy Trusee of Jacksboro, D. L. Baird, Farmer of Jellico, Mrs. H. L. Vinsant, Mrs. E. L. Wilson, Mrs. Charles Brown, all of Jacksboro, and Mrs. M. L. McDonald of Washington, D.C. He is also survived by two brothers and one sister. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Jacksboro Baptist Church, the Rev. J.S. Aiken and Rev. P. P. Tabor officiating. Burial followed in the Jacksboro Cemetery.
