GREENFIELD – Iris W. Reed, age 79, of Greenfield, passed away on December 15, 2011, in Greenfield. Born on June 8, 1932, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of Charles and Flora (Williamson) Wilson. She graduated from George Washington High School in 1950 and married Martin L. Reed in 1952. She worked at National City Bank as the Vice President of Accounting for 35 years before retiring in 1997. Iris was a lifelong member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Indianapolis and was also a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Greenfield for the past four years. Mrs. Reed was very involved with the St. Vincent DePaul at St. Anthony's and helped run their bingo game. Additionally, she was very involved with their bereavement committee. Iris was an avid reader and loved to crochet baby blankets for all of her grandchildren.
Surviving her are her husband, Martin Reed of Greenfield; children, Aleta (Dave) Carnes of Indianapolis, Ruth Eckstein of Indianapolis, Peggy (Richard) Mills of Greenfield, Martin "Buddy" Reed of Tennessee, Michael (Deanna) Reed of Kentucky, and Matthew (Theresa) Reed of Texas; son-in-law, Bob Gatfield of New Baltimore, MI; brother-in-law, James Reed of Indianapolis; niece, Lynn Hemmrick; nephew, Robert Wilson; nineteen grandchildren; thirty three great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. Preceding her in death were her parents; daughter, Nancy Gatfield; granddaughter, Janet mills; siblings, Irving Wilson, Baird Wilson, and Catherine Brent Wilson; and son-in-law, Dan Eckstein.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 16, 2011, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield with a rosary taking place at 3:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will take place on Saturday, December 17, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Greenfield. Monsignor William Stumpf will be officiating and burial will take place at Washington Park East Cemetery in Indianapolis.
