Mahala Rollins was the daughter of James Madison Rollins and his first wife, Elizabeth Hurt.

She married first to Jonathan Smith in 1862. He was killed in Georgia in the Civil War.

Mahala married Jeremy Parkhurst Love in 1864. She was his third wife. They were the parents of Flora Etta, Charles, William Lowery, Exie Alice, Nora Belle and James Parkhurst Love. Flora, William and Exie all died before their first birthday.
