Joseph Caldwell, 74, of 433 E. King St., died Saturday at 3:10 p.m. at the Chambersburg Hospital. He had suffered a stroke earlier in the day.
He was born Nov. 24, 1888, in Chambersburg, a son of the late John W. and Anna [Ida] Flack Caldwell. He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.
He was a borough light plant employe[e] for 27 years, retiring four years ago. he formerly was employed by the Chambersburg Engineering Co. for a number of years.
Surviving are four sons and six daughters: John W. of St. Thomas; Robert F. and Walter T., both of Waynesboro; Sidney R., of 250 S. Third St.; Mrs. Harry R. Gearhart, R.R. 2, Fayetteville; Mrs. Garnet H. Weaver, 433 E. King St.; Mrs. Betty Watson, 246 S. Main St.; Mrs. Charles E. Rice, 124 Garfiedl St.; Mrs. David R. Jones, R.R. 4, and Mrs, Howard F. Hancock, Shippensburg; 41 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, three brothers and a sister: David, of 169 S. Third Stt.; Frank, of 349 W. King St.; James, of 353 E. King St., and Miss Florence Caldwell, 353 E. King St. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. from Sellers funeral home, in charge of the Rev. Dr. Clarence A. Neal. Burial will be made in Lincoln Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the funeral home Monday evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.
