2- Josiah Austin Hammer born 9 Oct 1855 Uintah,Weber, Co. Died 18 May 1922 Cardston, Alberta, Canada.

In 1838 the Hammer family lived on Shoal Creek near Hauns Mill. Josiah's Father Austin Hammer had gone to the mill to help with trouble happening there. The Mob came to steal and kill, Austin lost his life, his final resting place was a well. This terrible even caused the Hammer family and many others lot's of pain and strife.

Josiah's Mother Nancy Jane Elston Hammer was left with a large family, and the mob gave them ten days to leave the area. It was with the help of the Lord and because she was a remarkable woman that they all survived the next few month's. It was in the dead of winter with few of the nessary supplies and winter clothing and shoes or shelter. They all made it and no body else in the family was lost because of the actions of others.

In 1850 Josiah crossed the plains, and in the same year he returned. It was at Allred's Camp, Pottawattamie, Iowa that he married a pretty young lady, her name was Elizabeth Osborn. The family was getting ready to go to the Salt Lake Valley, with the young couple was Josiah's Mother Nancy Jane Elston Hammer, and her son and Josiah's brother Austin Hammer. Also in the company was Elizabeth's family, her Father and Mother, David and Cynthia Butler Osborn, and their children.

A long journey was ahead everyone said this journey had it's pain and strife as Elizabeth's Mother Cynthia died giving birth to a still-born child.

They arrived in Farmington, Utah 16 September 1852. Here in this area Josiah and Elizabeth Osborn Hammer became the parent's of two children, Cynthia Adelaide Hammer Brown Hunt, and Josiah A. Hammer.

This young family were not to be together long on this earth, as both young parents were ill with Consumption. Elizabeth left first on the 10th of March 1856, at the young age of twenty two, and then on 3 Feb 1857 Josiah passed away. It was all so sad, i'm sure, what would the two little children do?. Josiah had gone to the other side to meet his dear wife Elizabeth, he was only twenty six years old. The two little ones were not left alone dear family members on both sides of the family stepped in, and gave the children homes. They both grew up to be outstanding people of whom their parents would have been proud.

And so ends this little history of Josiah Hammer, a fine young Man, went see his dear Father and his young wife, the love of his life.
