Amelia was the daughter of Thomas Vivion Brooking and Elizabeth Massie Sherwin.

She married Henry on 11 January 1827, and they had at least eight children: Virginia, Ella, Augusta, Vivion, Augustus, Emma, Lucien and Leslie. She died of "Heart Disease," per Cemetery records, and is buried near Henry and two of their children in a family plot.
