Son of Thomas and Sarah (Jenny) Pope. Buried adjacent to his wife Deborah.

Dartmouth, Wednesday March 22. Last Saturday Morning Died here, the Honoured Seth Pope, Esq; One of His Majesty's Justice of the Peace for the County of Bristol, in the 77th Year of his Age: and Yesterday was decently Buried; a great Number from this and the Neighboring Towns attending his Funeral. He was the first Introducer of the Ministry into the Town, and the chief Supporter to the Day of his Death. He has been a great & flourishing Trader for the 50 Years: and has manag'd Affairs with such extraordinary Care, that it is said, he was never engag'd in a Law-Suit, in his Life. He has gain'd a very great Esteem & preserved a very clear Reputation all about him, for Justice, Fairness, Goodness, & a peaceable Spirit. A great Friend to the Poor while he liv'd: and when he lay on his Death Bed, he took special Care of them, by Solemnly Charging his Executors and Children, that they Should never Sue any Poor for his Debts: But those that were Indigent, should be wholly forgiven; and for others that could not presently Clear, his Children shou'd stay & take them as they were able to Pay'em. Having given these and other suitable Charges; he desired not to be spoke to about any Temporal Things thro' the Time of his Sickness. But a few Days before he died, being told of his Daughter Church's being bereaved of her Husband by Drowning at Freetown, who left her with Eleven Children; he ordered her to have the Interest of a Thousand Pounds for Three Years after her Loss, besides what he had allow'd in his Will; and then wholly gave himself up to Prepare for his approaching Change.
