He was a big fan of college and high school basketball. He was in attendance at hundreds of basketball games at Colonia and Woodbridge high schools for more than 30 years.
Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Mary C. (nee Squires) Chmiel; three sons, Thomas, Richard, and Kenneth Chmiel; a daughter, Margaret Guidetti; a brother, Edward Chmiel; four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.
