Mary Margaret Allen was born the sixth child to the union of Henry Edward & Eliza Mae (Glotfelty) Allen, of Jackson County, Illinois.

In 1930 Mary married Earl Lester McIntyre and they together had five children: Earl Lester McIntyre, Jr.; Mary Jean McIntyre; Charles Allen McIntyre; Glenn Michael McIntyre; and Denise Sue McIntyre.

Mary spent a part of her life as a school teacher in Illinois and later moved to Oregon to be near her second born daughter, Denise Sue McIntyre Spielman.

Mary Margaret McIntyre is buried in a plot next to her beloved first born daughter, Mary Jean McIntyre who died at a tender age of 20 years in 1953. Buried with Mary Margaret McIntyre are the cremated remains of her third born son the Reverend Glenn Michael McIntyre who died in 1993 while an employee of the United States Government in Washington D.C.Murphysboro - The evening of May 2, 2010, Mary Allen McIntyre turned her head and looked intently at the ceiling in the far corner of the room just moments before turning to look at her youngest daughter, Denise, and son-in-law, Barney.

Clearly, she had seen the one who had come to escort her to her new home among her family and friends who had passed before her. Her almost immediate passing, therefore, was peaceful and she was unafraid, happy to pass to the other side. She had been losing strength since her 98th birthday Dec. 28.

The fifth of six children of Henry Edward and Eliza Mae (Glotfelty) Allen, Mary grew up on a farm between Carbondale and Murphysboro. In 1930, she married Earl Lester McIntyre, the son of Charles Kelly and Anna (Jacobs) McIntyre of Murphysboro. She remained in the area until 1955, the years she was widowed.

Mary had been the pianist at Pleasant Grove Church for several years and taught in local one-room rural grade schools. In the fall of 1955, she became a third grade teacher in Mackinaw.

She moved to Pekin in 1961, where she taught until her early retirement in 1973. She served as a volunteer teacher at Red Bird Mission and Pine Mountain Settlement in rural Kentucky for about five years before moving back to Illinois. In 1989, she moved to Portland, Ore., to help her daughter's busy family.

A daughter, Mary Jean, and son, Glenn Michael, preceded her in death.

She is survived by Earl L. McIntyre (Pat) of Bloomington, Charles A. McIntyre (Lynell) of Yucaipa, Calif., and Denise (Mrs. Richard) Spielman of Portland, Ore. She also is survived by six grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 18 great-great-grandchildren.

At a later date in Pleasant Grove Cemetery, Mary's cremated remains will be buried with those of her son, "Mike," in the plot adjacent to her daughter, Mary Jean.
