Mrs. Nixon E. Shuler

Touching and beautiful were the last services held Saturday morning, March 12, for Mrs. Nixon E. Shuler, who was called to rest from her labors on earth at 4:30 Thursday afternoon March 10. The end came unexpectedly, she having been ill only a few days and was thought to have been improving.

Mrs Shuler's life was a beautiful and useful one and it might be said in a broad term that her life was a full one despite the fact that she was claimed in death at the early age of 30 years, 4 months and 20 days. She leaves as a heritage to her four small child and her husband, a memory of her that will always be a shining and guiding star on the horizon of life.

Her loved ones will always remember her as a kind and loving mother, wife, sister and daughter. She was devoted to her home and church. In her home she instilled principles through teaching and devotion that will reflect in the lives of her family and will always be revered in her church work she found a great pleasure and despite heavy home duties was faithful to her responsibilities as teacher of the primary class in catechism at the St. James Catholic Church.

Mrs. Shuler, who was Miss Helen Elizabeth Dunn before her marriage, was born Oct. 20, 1907, at Yoakum, where she grew to young womanhood. She was a life long member of the Catholic Church.

On November 28, 1923, Miss Helen Elizabeth Dunn became the bride of Nixon E. Shuler in a beautiful marriage ceremony at Yoakum, and came to Gonzales to mane her home. Theirs was a happy married life and to them were blur four sons who survive, George Nixon, 13; Kenneth Dunn, 11; David Wayne, 8; Ronald Lamar, 1 year, 11 months.
Survivors also are her bereaved mother and father, two sisters, Mrs. H. O. Weatherly of Houston and Mrs. H. C. Gill of Dallas, besides numerous other relatives.

Brief services were held last Saturday in the home, then the remains were removed to the St James Church, where high requiem mass was celebrated, with Rev. James Wichterich officiating and and her former pastor Rev. Beck of Yoakum presiding at the organ. A beautiful and inspiring sermon was given by Rev. Wichterich. At the conclusion of service the casket was opened and friends and loved ones filed by for a last look upon the features of the one that had been so dear to them while the choir sang "O'Paradise"

Services were concluded at the City cemetery where the choir sang "Angels of Light." At the end of the service Rev. Hal C. Wings, pastor of the First Baptist church, gave a short scriptural reading and brought a brief message of consolation to the deceased' loved ones. As a fitting and touching closing number a quartet from the Baptist church sang "God Will Be With You" by special request.

The new made mound was banked high with scores of beautiful bouquets and special floral tributes from the family and friends signify the high esteem in which Mrs. Shuler was held by her many friends.

The casket piece was from the family being a beautiful arrangement of red rosebuds Easter lillies and fern. Other special floral tributes were from the following: The "42" Clube Primary Catechism Class. First Baptist Church, St. James Choir, Glicks Milliners Store of Dallas, Gonzales Boy Scott Troop, Forgotston's Grocery, Luella Remeshel Bible Class, Michelson Bros. Central Ward School Junior Catechism Class, Evelyn Beauty Shop, Young Ladies Idolity of St. James church, Ladies Alter Society of St. James church.
, Senior Catechism Class, Eight Grade of the High School. Many Cards and telegrams of condolence were received.

There were many out of town relatives and friends in attendance at the funeral.
