Harold I. Veerkamp

"Harold I. Veerkamp, born May 21, 1927, to Vinton and Regina Veerkamp in Rescue, Calif., was 84 years old when he passed away of natural causes on Dec. 15, 2011, in Rescue. He spent 60 of his 84 years living in Rescue, having recently returned to the area in order to live his remaining days in the land he loved.
Harold was a heavy equipment operator for 28 years, served in the Army during the Korean war and raised beef cattle on his farm in Rescue, then later in Lakeview, Ore. He was a long-time member of the Farm Bureau and served on the Soil Conservation Board of El Dorado County and Water Board in Lake County, Ore.
He is survived by his sister, Eileen Ansted of Folsom, Calif.; son, Harold Veerkamp, Jr. of Spencertown, N.Y.; daughter, Teresa Sumprer, of La Mesa, Calif.; son, Keith Veerkamp of Oklahoma; stepson, Karl Elze of Tulare, Calif.; cousins, Kathleen O'Brien and Jeffrey Lewis; and nine grandchildren.
Services will be held in the chapel of Green Valley Mortuary on Wednesday, Dec. 21, at 10 a.m., located at Green Valley and Bass Lakes roads in Rescue. Call 530-677-7171 for information. Following the service at the chapel there will be a graveside service at the Jayhawk Cemetery in Rescue. Arrangements for a reception at the Rescue Community Center are pending."
