Eileen joined the Nurse Cadet Corps while studying at Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Sacramento. The war ended just as she was finishing her training so she was not needed in the Military Nurse Corps. She began her career working at Mercy General as a surgical nurse. In 1947, she married Glen Ansted of Elk Grove at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Placerville. Together they made a home in Sacramento and later in Chico. In 1960, they returned to the Sacramento area, where they lived until Glen’s retirement. At that time they returned to their beloved El Dorado County, building a new home in El Dorado Hills. As health began to fail them both, they moved later to Folsom to be closer to doctors and health care facilities.
Eileen remained active as long as she could, but needed to move to an assisted care facility in Orangevale to live out her final years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glen; and brothers, Harold and Vinton. She is survived by son, Jim of Honolulu, Hawaii; and daughter, Susan of Crowley, Texas. She had eight grandchildren and step-grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Jan. 23, at 10 a.m., at Mount Vernon Memorial Park in Fair Oaks."
