Murder Victim. Patricia was newly married to Douglas Zyzkowski. They left Seattle, Washington, in November 1989, when they decided to hitchhike to Georgia to attend a religious workshop. On their way home they apparently accepted a ride near El Paso, Texas, and their families reported them missing after trying many times to contact them. Douglas' remains were found in January 1990, near El Paso, but his body was not identified until 1992. Patricia's remains were later found in central Utah by deer hunters in October 1990. She was finally identified in 2003 using dental records and DNA testing. According to her brother, Patricia was a dedicated follower of Jesus Christ who would share the Good News with anyone who would listen. Patricia and Douglas were later confirmed as victims of serial killer, Robert Ben Rhoades. Described by authorities as a sadistic killer, Rhoades was charged with their 1990 abductions and slayings, and pled guilty to their murders. He was sentenced to life in prison.
