Hazel F. (Davis) Phillippi, 89, of Oakland, passed away peacefully on Monday, Dec. 19, 2011, at Oakland Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Sept. 28, 1922, in Hopemont, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Henry and Hattie (Auwaeter) Davis. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Paul W. Phillippi; four brothers, Claudius Davis, Gyle Davis, Willard Schukert and Herman Schukert; three sisters, Catherine Zoellers, Freda Haught and Bertha Sanders; a grandson and a great-granddaughter.
Hazel graduated from Oakland High School in 1940. She retired from Germain's Sewing Center after 25 years of service and was a member of St. Paul's United Methodist Church where she had been active in the Women's Circle for many years. Her greatest love was to spend time with family. Her other interests included sewing, crocheting, bowling, traveling, bird watching, fishing and reading.
Surviving are three daughters, [name withheld], of Deer Park, [name withheld], of Newport, Tenn., and [name withheld], of Oakland; eight grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends will be received on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the David A. Burdock Funeral Home, P.A., 21 N 2nd St., Oakland.
Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home on Thursday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. Lawrence Sherwood officiating.
Interment will follow in Garrett County Memorial Gardens.
