Martin McDonald, 68, whose home was on a farm four miles northeast of Wakarusa, died suddenly of apoplexy about 3 o’clock last Saturday, while placing hay in the mow of a neighbor, Martin Loucks.

Mr Loucks had left Mr McDonald working in the barn while he went for a second load of hay. On returning with this load, he was surprised to note that the work had been but half-finished, and upon investigating found his neighbor lying on the hay, dead. The fork was sticking in the hay, as if he had felt the attack some time before he fell.

He had been in good health and just before setting out to work partook heartily of the noon hour dinner.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs Lena Mickel McDonald, whom he married at Wakarusa eight years ago; three brothers, Thomas and Frank McDonald of Nappanee and Chas McDonald of Goshen; and two sisters, Mrs Harvey Wise of Wenatchee, Wash, and Mrs David Rohrer of Houston, Tex.

Mr McDonald was a life-long resident of Elkhart county, and previous to eight years ago lived near Foraker. He was a member of the Mennonite church.

The funeral was held at the home at 1 o’clock Tuesday and at 2 o’clock at the Yellow Creek Mennonite church. Rev David Yoder of the Olive church and Rev Charles Wright of the Bethel church conducted the funeral services. The burial took place at the Yellow Creek cemetery.
