Thomas was a blacksmith. As his father, William went West, he followed. At one time he lived in Redding, Ringgold Co., Iowa. They tell a story about him, he was very patient about the way people pronounced his name the first time and would explain to them just how it should be, but woe to him that did not pronounce it correctly after that, there was a fight. He liked and understood the Indians and spent many days with them.
