Funeral Services Planned Sunday For Mr. Scheske

Last rites for Fred A. Scheske, Sr., who died at the Holmes Memorial hospital at 10:30 a.m. Friday, will be held from the Seydler Funeral home at 3 p.m. Sunday. Mr. Scheske had been ill for several weeks.
The Rev. Charles B. Fraser, Jr., pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate at the services with burial to follow in the Masonic cemetery.
Prominent in business circles of Gonzales, Mr. Scheske founded his own wholesale grocery firm years ago, and was engaged in this field at the time of his death.
He was born in Gonzales on February 22, 1891, to Amiel E. and Jessie Smead Scheske, natives respectively of Germany and Sandusky, Ohio. All his life had been spent in this area.
A graduate of the local high school, he attended Texas A and M. College at College Station. At the early age of 17 years, he joined the Gonzales Volunteer Fire Department , continuing in this organization until his death, a period of some 54 years.
He had been a member of the First Presbyterian church since a young man and served many years as a deacon. In 1921 he was elected to the city council and continued as a member until 1933.
He also belonged to the Gonzales Masonic lodge and was a 50 year member and was a member of the ODHS Herman Sons Lodge.
On June 16, 1915, he and Miss Annie Laurie Cobb were married/ They have made their home for many years on North College street where their two children were reared.
His survivors include his wife; two children, Mayor Fred A. Scheske, Jr., Gonzales, and Mrs. Herbert (Jean) Garrison of Texarkana.
Also surviving him are one brother, Joe Scheske of Gonzales; two sisters, Mrs. Henry Reese, Jr., and Mrs. W. T. Dawe, both of Gonzales; and four grandchildren, Claude, Bobby and Eddie Scheske of Gonzales and Steve Garrison of Texarkana.
Pallbearers will be his nephews, Douglas Forshagen, Edwin Diebel, William T. Pettus, Jr., Jessie Bell, Edward Reese, Hensley Hurt, Dr. J. M. Scheske and Joe Davis.
