The family story that our grandma (Martha Jane Privett) told about Henry was that he was a doctor for Jesse James gang. Henry Lafayette would sometimes take care of Frank and or Jessie James.
The story was that Henry was sent for to doctor one of the James' and he left to go back home on horseback. When he did not return home some went looking for him. When they found him, he was dead. His body was off the horse, but, one of his feet was hung up in the sturp. It looked like he had fallen off the horse and was dragged to death. However, his horse was very gentle and his family didn't believe the horse would have dragged him. They thought that the James' had killed him ,but, they couldn't prove it.
