Mr. Anthony J. Alcuri Sr., age 85, of Roeton Community, died Thursday, April 25, 2002 at his home following an extended illness.
Funeral services will be 3 .m. Sunday, April 28, 2002 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Wilkes, Rev. Rex Godwin and Rev. Joe Underwood officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, Fuqua-Bankston Funeral Home of Ozark directing. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Mr. Alcuri will lie in state one hour prior to services on Sunday.
Mr. Alcuri was born September 14, 1916 in Utica, NY. His parents, Raphael Alcuri and Catherine Callidone were direct immigrants from Italy. He was a member of the V.F.W.; Alabama State Troopers Association; Alabama Sheriffs Dept. Association, Military Police, Woodmen of the World and the Elks Club. Mr. Alcuri was a veteran of World War II having served in the US Army. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents wife: Nettie L. Alcuri; son: Officer Ray Alcuri; grandson: Jamie Ray Alcuri; sister: Stella Mario and brother: Jimmy Alcuri.
Survivors include one daughter: Mary Ann Johnson, Brundidge; one son: Anthony Joseph Alcuri Jr., Brundidge; two sisters: Theresa Amorosa and Frances Rico, both of Utica, N.Y.; one brother: Freddie Alcuri, Utica, N.Y.; 10 grandchildren: Jeff Portwood Brundidge; Carin Portwood Hughes, Ozark; Jonathan Batchelor, Troy; Tina Johnson Money, Jack; Sereatha Alcuri Powell Elba; 'Tonisha Alcuri Peters, Ariton; Nicky Alcuri Catrett, Ozark; Samantha Alcuri, Brundidge; Timothy Ray Alcuri and Kristy Alcuri both of Elba; 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
