"The front door had an old fashioned lock... or something... whatever held it came loose and fell down. The door opened several inches. This scared Dad who went to his mother's door and told her. She said, 'Well there's something going to happen.' It was only a few weeks that the first son got sick. Grandma said to Grandpa, 'You better go get the doctor'. He started toward the barn to get the horse and hitch the wagon. When he got half way, she opened the door and called out, 'Dont go. He's dead!'
They couldn't get a preacher because no one would come. A neighbor read scripture and gave a prayer. Everyone was afraid of getting the disease so they wouldn't come close."
