The funeral for Rudolph J. "Rudy" Bures, 81, of Howells will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Howells.

He died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in West Point.

He was born Feb. 14, 1922, on a farm north of Dodge in Cuming County. He attended Cuming County rural schools. He married Elgina Svitak on June 20, 1944, in Howells. He was a farmer.

He was a member of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.

Survivors include: his wife; two sons, Kenneth (and wife, Marilyn) Bures of Oakland and Gilbert (and wife, Connie) Bures of Baker City, Ore.; two daughters, Elberta (Mrs. Lumir A.) Spulak of Schuyler and Sharon (Mrs. Ronald) Burenheide of Howells; three brothers, Lumir (and wife, Betty) Bures of Clarkson, Louis (and wife, Anita) Bures of Baraboo, Wis., and Eddie Bures of Dodge; five sisters, Libbie Schroeder of McCook, Mildred Machacek of David City, Blanche Spulak of Schuyler, Mary Ann (Mrs. Allen) Schroeder of Leigh and Patsy (Mrs. Anton) Kreikemeier of West Point; 12 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two infant sisters.

The Rev. Paul Ortmeier will officiate Thursday's service. Visitation will be from 2:30-8 p.m. Wednesday and 9:30-10:30 a.m. Thursday, all at the church. A Christian Mothers rosary will be said at 3 p.m. Wednesday and a parish rosary
will be said at 7:30 p.m., both at the church. Burial will be in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery in Howells.

A memorial has been established to Howells Catholic Community School.
