Lumir Bures, 93, of Clarkson, Nebraska, died Friday, January 31, 2014, at his home in Clarkson.

The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at 10:30 AM at the New Zion Presbyterian Church in Clarkson with Rev. Cathy Allen officiating. Interment with military honors will be in the Clarkson National Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM at Miller Funeral Home and continue on Wednesday from 9:30 AM until service time at the church. Memorials are suggested to the New Zion Presbyterian Church Organ Restoration Fund, or the donor's choice.

Lumir Bures was born on a farm north of Doge, Nebraska, in Cuming County on December 16, 1920, to Alois and Mary (Pacas) Bures. He attended rural District #41 Grade School near his home. He worked as a farm hand near Morse Bluff, Nebraska, and was inducted into the US Army in July, 1942. He received his basic training at Camp Roberts, California, and served with Company A, 148th Infantry, 37th Division. He served 27 months on Fiji, Guadalcanal, New Georgia, Russell Islands, Bougainville, and the Philippines. He was wounded twice: August 1, 1943 at New Georgia, and February 6, 1945, at Luzon.

On August 1, 1945, Lumir married Betty Buchholtz at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Council Bluffs, Iowa. They lived in Springfield, Missouri, where Lumir had been recovering from war wounds at O'Reilly General Hospital. Following his honorable discharge from the service, they lived at Morse Bluff, Nebraska, and then in February 1951, moved to a farm one and one-half miles northeast of Clarkson, Nebraska. Besides his own farm duties, he hauled livestock and baled hay for others. In October 1979, Lumir and Betty retired from farming and moved to Clarkson. He had a little woodworking shop in the basement where he made frames, shelves, cupboards, and bird and squirrel feeders, etc.

Lumir was life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6419 in Clarkson, and a member of the American Legion Louis Cerv Post 122 of Dodge, Nebraska. He was a member of New Zion Presbyterian Church.
