Brian R. Blake, 54, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Friday, December 9, 2011 as the result of a charter plane crash near Sioux Falls.

Brian Blake, born September 8, 1957 in Sioux Falls, grew up in Sioux Falls where he received his education, graduating from Lincoln High School in 1975. Upon graduation, he attended South Dakota State University in Brookings where he graduated with a degree in economics. Brian then enrolled in the University of South Dakota in Vermillion, earning a second bachelor’s degree in in accounting. He moved to Colorado where he earned an MBA at Regis College and a master’s degree in Computer Information Systems at the University of Denver. While completing his education, Brian was employed by the Martin Marietta Company in Littleton, CO.

On May 8, 1987, he was united in marriage with Jorjann Blue in Colorado. The couple moved to Sioux Falls in 1993 where Brian worked for Lodgenet, then for Wells Fargo Bank. His passion for flying and aviation began as a child. Throughout his adult life, Brian was a member of the Air National Guard, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. At the time of his death, he was employed by Quest Aviation as the flight services manager, Landmark Aviation as a charter pilot, and National American University as an Intro to Computers instructor.

Brian was preceded in death by his father, Robert L. Blake.

Memorial services will begin 10:00 am Wednesday at Southern Hills United Methodist Church. Interment will be in Hills of Rest Memorial Park. With the family present, visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Tuesday at Miller Funeral Home, Main Avenue location.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Civil Air Patrol and Southern Hills Methodist Church.
