Mata was born in Freeland, MI on August 7, 1921 to the late August and Mary (Hammermeister) Mielke. She was a member of the Church of Christ.
Prior to retirement she was a cook in the Midland Public School system.
She was preceded in death by her husband Joseph M. Kirk and her 12 siblings.
