SHIRLEY A. GALLOWAY - VERONA

Shirley Ann (Balser) Galloway, 69, wife of Thomas F. Galloway of Laurel Hill Road, Verona, died Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Augusta Medical Center.

She was born May 22, 1939, in Augusta County, a daughter of the late Charles A. and Inez (Wood) Balser.

Mrs. Galloway retired from Lee High School, where she worked in the cafeteria, and was known affectionately as "Mrs. G". She also had previously worked at Shop and Save.

For over 20 years she was an active member of the Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Food Service, where she currently served as treasurer. She was the recipient of the Heart of the Program Award in 2002-2003, and 2007-2008.

She was a member of St. John's Reformed Church of Christ, where she was serving as an Elder and was chairman of the Evangelical Committee.

She was a loving and caring wife, mother, and grand-mother.

In addition to her husband, family members include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Douglas F. Galloway of Verona and Donald R. and Kimberley Galloway of Staunton; a brother and sister-in-law, Wayland and Joan Balser of Staunton; four grandchildren, Chelsea Nicole Galloway, Brandon Douglas Galloway, Ashley Nicole Galloway, and Tiffany Anne Galloway; a great--grandchild, MacKenzie Galloway; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Robert Hoover, Charles S. and Harry C. Balser; and two sisters, Mildred Brown and Thelma Tyree.

A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008, at St. John's Reformed Church of Christ by the Reverend Glenn W. Barrett and the Reverend Harold W. "Pete" Campbell. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be J. Thomas Brown Jr., Mickey Brown, Dr. Bill Brown, Jimmy Balser, Shane Ayers, Danny Cline, Lynn Heizer, and Richard Ellinger.

Honorary pallbearers will be Charles and Ann Buchanan, members of Staunton-Augusta-Waynesboro Food Service and members of Calvary Class of Mill Creek Church of the Brethren.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2008, at Henry Funeral Home and other times at her residence.
