Mrs. Doris Diggs
Mrs. Doris Lee Diggs, 62, of Frederick, departed this life Friday, July 25, 2008, at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of Charles W. "Buckles" Diggs Sr., for 42 years.
Doris was born in Jefferson County, W.Va., to Benjamin and Celena Carter of Kearneysville, W.Va.
She was a longtime employee of National Bureau of Standards now (NIST) in Gaithersburg and later employed as a secretary for Goodwill Industries in Frederick. She was a longtime member of the Jackson Chapel United Methodist Church where she served several committees, including the Voices of Unity Choir and the usher board.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her mother, Celena Carter of Kearneysville, W.Va.; one daughter, Jacqueline Y. Diggs; one son, Charles "Bug" Diggs Jr.; one grandson, Dimitri Dixon; one sister, Sharon A. Adams (John); two brothers, Reginald Roper (Gwenivere) and Franklin Carter; two aunts, Sarah Walker (John) and Velda Brown; two uncles, James Roper and Lester Grantham; one sister-in-law, Delores Shackelford; and four brothers-in-law, Harlen Diggs (Liz), Eldridge Diggs (Rhoda), David Diggs (Katina) and Eugene Diggs. She also leaves behind a host of special nieces, nephews, cousins, and numerous friends. She will be remembered by two special and devoted friends, Mrs. Jane Ross and Mrs. Elaine Smallwood.
A public viewing will be held from 3 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, July 30, at the Rollins Funeral Home, 110 W. South St., Frederick. Homegoing services will be held Thursday, July 31, at the New Dimensions Worship Center, 919 N. East St., Frederick.
The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to noon, July 31, prior to the service. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
