Steve Andrews ([email protected]) says that he has a record of a Thomas Andrews who married a Dorothy Clarke at St. Bride in Fleet Street Parish, London on April 5, 1624. Not proven but seems to fit although this would make her only 13 years old at the time of her marriage-realistic???. It would also mean that she was in her late 40's-early 50's when her first children were born???
Thomas Andrews, immigrant from England to Virginia in the late 1600's. His son William, m. Avie ___, had a son Mark Andrews b. ca. 1731 who m. Winifred Lyell.
William, son of Thomas, did _not_ marry Avis Garnett, daughter of Thomas Garnett and Elizabeth Muscoe, as is claimed in countless websites and books. Thomas Garnett did have a child Avis, but in Thomas' will (1743, Essex Co.) Avie was mentioned as among "several small children" of Thomas and Elizabeth. As William and Avie Andrews were having children themselves in the 1730's, it is impossible that William's wife was this Avis Garnett, and is in fact undocumented (as far as I've seen that Avie was a Garnett at all. (Apparently there is good evidence that Avis Garnett married a totally different Andrews -- another Mark Andrews, but not Mark son of William! -- and from a Bible record, Avis Garnett was born in 1731 and her husband Mark Andrews in 1724.)
So, if Avie Andrews was not a Garnett, what _was_ her maiden name? What evidence have we that Thomas Andrews, William's father, was from England, as has been claimed in many websites?

Mark Andrews who m. Winifred Lyell. I am reasonably certain that I have a complete list of Mark & Winifred's children, and they were:
John m. Rebecca Malone
Ephraim m. Ann Hardaway Locke
Leannah m. William Yarborough
Polly (nothing more known)
Lydia m. Cornelius Matthews
Zilphia m. Jeffrey Murrell (my line)
George (nothing more known)
__________
My Mark Andrews (m. Winifred Lyell) was the son of William Andrews and Avie ______ (_not_ Garnett!); Avis Garnett d/o Thomas Garnett/Elizabeth Muscoe married a different Mark Andrews (i.e., not the one who m. Winifred Lyell), she did _not_ marry William Andrews. Too many Andrews and Avis/Avies -- :-)
Apparently, the maiden name of my Avie (____) Andrews remains unknown, but it probably wasn't Garnett, despite what many people have posted.
Most sources agree that Mark's parents were William Andrews and Avis Garnett. However, who were William's parents? One source says Thomas Andrews b. 1663 in England and Dororthy _____; another says John Andrews m. Hannah Stockdale. Neither has primary source documentation that I could find. Does anyone know for sure which is correct?
