According to numerous articles in the Washington Post, August and Grayce King-Smith ran several schools at different locations in the city over the years and taught many divergent subjects, such as drama, writing, and painting. Another talked of how the daughter of the late poet Robert Frost, Lesley was once on staff. And famed dancer Martha Graham held numerous classes as a guest instructor. There were many other well known figures associated with the school over it's lifetime.
At one location on S street N.W. the Post on Dec. 20th, 1942 ran a story about them filing for bankruptcy. And on Aug. 24th, 1947, a new school was opening elsewhere in the city. In 1949 the schools closed for good but August continued teaching voice lessons at his home.
