Part of an article in the, "St. Louis Republic" Newspaper: July 1, 1900:

Joseph Barnard was killed by a train at the Relay Depot in East St. Louis a couple of years ago while on the way to meet his fiance. He was crossing the tracks to reach the train in which she was seated when he was struck by an approaching train and cut to pieces.
