Mrs. Harry Garver

Mrs. Maude Creswell Garver passed away at her home in Elk City on December 14, 1953 after a short illness. She was born in 1887 on March 27 in Texas.

She came to the farm on which her father filed, near Bessie, Oklahoma with her parents when she was very young. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Rogers passed away when she was a small girl and she was reared by her step-mother, Mrs. Ella Allen of Moore.

in 1902 she was married to James T. Creswell at Bessie. They were the parents of 6 children which they reared in this part of Oklahoma. They lived in Elk City for many years. Mr. Creswell was killed in a car wreck in 1936. Their son, Haskell was killed in 1944 in an airplane crash while serving in the armed forces of World War II.

She and Harry Garver were united in marriage at Wheeler, Texas in December, 1946. They were living happily in their home at 620 West Fifth in Elk City when she passed away.

She was a member of the Baptist church for 44 years. She was also a gold star mother of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was a faithful wife and kind, loving mother. She had many friends, whom she cherished dearly.

Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, Mrs. Beulah Ken(sic) of Sayre, Mrs. Blanche Kilpatrick of Elk City, Mrs. Leon Jones of Chandler, Floyd Creswell, of Burbank, California and Doyle of Elk City.

Her six grandchildren are Mrs. Vaughn Minor, Dean and Blanche Kent, Jimmie and Dona Creswell and Larry Jones. The three great-grandchildren are Edwina, Rodney and Kelly Minor.

Two half brothers also survive. They are Will Rogers of Washington, D. C. and Marvin Rbgers(sic) of Oklahoma City.

There's an open gate at the end of the road
Through which each must go alone
And there in a light we cannot see
Our Father claims His own;
Beyond the gate our loved one
Finds happiness and rest
And there is comfort in the thought
That a loving God knows best.
