Willis L. Somervell, 1811-1864. A native of Virginia. Husband of Mary Martin Somervell, 1812-1893. In 1848, Judge Willis L. Somervell and family moved to Tulip, Dallas County, Arkansas from Hardeman County, Tennessee. He later helped in the founding of the Arkansas Military Institute and the Tulip Female Seminary. He was a member of Waco Lodge No. 92, A.F. and A.M. Pioneers of Waco.
