"Richland" was the first property he owned in Tennessee and he established a cemetery for family burials. He only owned the property for a few years, selling it to Charles H. Hill, but for over twenty years his family continued to bury there, though gradually especially after the Civil War, people preferred burials in church or community cemeteries instead of cemeteries on private property.
