Vincenzo was born and raised in Bronte, Provincia di Catania, Sicily. Bronte is a small town up the mountain from the large costal city of Catania in Eastern Sicily.

His parents were:

*Serafino Gullo, of Bronte
*Nunziata Luca of Bronte

Vincenzo was named after his maternal grandfather, Vincenzo Luca.

However, his family nickname was "Ensullo"

His siblings:

*Maria, married name Calcagno
*Felicia, married name Minio
*Gaspare
*Giuseppe
*Margherita, married name Zerbo

In his youth Vincenzo worked with his father and brothers in the trade of making wicker baskets and mats.

Vincenzo immigrated to the USA on Jan. 17, 1912 and joined his older brother Gaspare in Jamestown, NY. Back then Jamestown had many jobs in their factories & mills and there was a large and growing community of Italian immigrants.
In time all of Vincenzo's immediate family, but his sister Maria, would come over and settle in Jamestown.

In July of 1916, in Jamestown, he married Sebastiana (Bessie) DiPaola. They would live in Jamestown for many years.

On Nov. 30, 1917 Vincenzo proudly became a US citizen. I belive he was the first of the Gullo family to become a citizen.

In 1924 Vincenzo and his older brother Gaspare would return to Sicily to visit their older sister Maria and family. Maria was stuck in Sicily, she wanted to join her family in Jamestown but her husband did not want to come to the USA.

Vincenzo worked for many years in Jamestown as a skilled furniture maker.

Around the year 1952 Vincenzo and Bessie moved cross country to Calif. in the Los Angles area. They joined up with Bessie's brother, Tony DiPaola, who had also moved to the LA area.

Vincenzo continued working in Calif. as a skilled wood finisher.
Vincenzo put in over 40 years working in the furniture and wood finishing trades. First working in Jamestown and then in Calif.

Vincenzo would lose his beloved wife of 43 years in Sept. of 1959. Two months later in Nov. 1959 Vincenzo passed away from a massive stroke. They both died in the Los Angeles area.

They both had wanted to be buried in Jamestown and when they passed away they were both shipped back and buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Jamestown.
Vincenzo's mother and father and most of his brothers and sisters are also buried in the same cemetery.

The Gullo family was very close in life and in death.

I don't think the King of Italy has a headstone as nice as this one.
