Mrs. Christine Spilde, 80, an early resident of this vicinity, died at 6:45 o'clock Monday at her home on north 4th street after a long period of ill health. A light stroke on Sept. 1 hastened her death.
Funeral services will be held this (Thursday) afternoon at the Northwood Lutheran Church at 2 o'clock preceded by a brief service at the home at 1:30 o'clock with pastor, the Rev. Arthur J. Tolo, in charge. Burial will be in Sunset Rest cemetery.
Mrs. Spilde was born January 9, 1858, in Voss, Norway. Her parents were Nels and Martha Sonve. The family came to America in 1869 locating at Woodstock, Iii. After periods of residence elsewhere they came to Worth County which was Mrs. Spilde's residence for 65 years.
She was married to M. P. Spilde in November, 1875. Mr. Spilde preceded her in death on June 19,1931. Three daughters also preceded their mother in death, Matilda, Nettie and Edna. The six surviving children are Mrs. A I Butler, Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. E. S. Fonda, Albert Lea; Mrs. C. F. Thompson, Mason City; Miss Etta Spilde, Elmer Spilde and Leonard Spilde, all of Northwood. There are 11 grandchildren. Mrs. L. D. Klove of Northwood and Mrs. G. A Bergtold of Chicago are her surviving sisters. Three brothers preceded her in death
Mr. and Mrs. Spilde were among the pioneers who helped to build this community. They were industrious and successful in their farming activities and always gave their support to the religious and civic influences which helped to make this a desirable place in which to live and rear a family.
Mrs. Spilde was of a quiet and retiring nature and in more recent years her infirmities made it impossible for her to enjoy the associations that had earlier been of interest to her. She was highly respected by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends from a distance who were present at the services were Mrs. G. A. Bergtold, Chicago, a sister of Mrs. Spilde; Mr. and Mrs. V. L. Klove, Iowa Falls; Miss Marjorie Narum, Minneapolis; John Spilde, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Spilde, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Spilde, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Seegmiller abd Floyd, all of Decorah; Mrs. E. A. Feldt and children, St. Ansgar; Mrs. C. V. Dietz, Mason City; Mrs. C. P. Larsen, Mrs Paul Peterson, Mrs. S. O. Simonson, Mrs. W. L. Palmer, Mrs. Evan Johnson, Miss Marie Frydenlund, Mrs. G. F. Teter, Mrs. Herschel Brock and Mrs. Schultz, all of Albert Lea.
Mr. and Mrs. D. L. Klove of Gordonsville were also present. Mrs. L. D. Klove is a sister of Mrs. Spilde. Her surving children are Mrs. A. I. Thomspon, Mason City; Miss Etta Spilde, Leonard Spilde and Elmer Spilde, all of Northwood. Eleven grandchildren anfd four great-grandchildren also survive.
