YORK- Frances Merle (Strout) MacLeod, 85, formerly of Portland died unexpectedly, Wednesday, June 11, 2003 in South Berwick. She was born April 8, 1918 in Cherryfield, a daughter of Russell and Lavonia (Worcester) Strout. She grew up in Cherryfield and graduated from Cherryfield Academy, Class of 1935. At Cherryfield Academy she was an outstanding basketball player. She was employed by the New England Telephone Company for 41 years, traveling through out the Northeast as an Instructor and as a Manager. After retiring from AT&T, she was employed by Peoples Heritage Bank in Portland for ten years. Mrs. MacLeod was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Carl MacLeod, who died in 1971. Survivors include four nieces, Jean M. Santiago of York Beach and Harrington, Nancy Tacy of Manchester, N.H., Loisann Warren of Clinton, and Nancy Dion of Hartford, Conn.; four nephews, Phillip Leighton of Caratunk, Robert Strout of New Hampshire, Sean Strout of New York, and Danny Strout of Waterville. Graveside Services will be held 1 p.m. Monday, June 23 in the Evergreen Cemetery, Portland. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: N.E. Hemophilia Assoc. 180 Rustcraft Rd.
