From the Sacramento Daily Union of Feb 8, 1889: Another Suicide. John Albert, who attempted to kill himself at the County Hospital on Sunday last by stabbing himself twice in the abdomen with a pocket knife, has since died of his injuries. He was a native of Pennsylvania, 54 years of age, a molder by trade, and has a sister, Mrs Forbes, who resides at Peoria, IL. John S. H. Albert, age 28 years, was enrolled by Captain Michael O'Brien at San Francisco, California, November 14 and mustered-in as private of Captain Eugene S. Gibbs's Company E (New), 2nd California Infantry, by Captain Jackson November 15, 1864. Private Albert was discharged, with his company, at Presidio of San Francisco, May 10, 1866.

Died from the Injuries. John Albert the patient at the County Hospital who attempted suicide last Sunday by slabbing himself with a knife, died about noon yesterday from the injuries.
