John C Smith was born in Logan Co, OH 11 Apr 1811 and was brought up a farmer, reaching his manhood in his native state. When 27 years old he came west to IL and in 1838 married Miss Frances Strain a native of OH. By this union there were 12 children named as follows: Angela, Sarah, James, Elizabeth, Marie, Wm, Jacob, Charles, John M, Allen B, Perry B and Bartholmew. Mr Smith came to IA in 1852, and located on a farm on section 31, where he continued to live until his death which occurred 22 Dec 1865. He wA worthy citizen and a pioneer of Salt Creek Township.
