William Henry Smith was the son of John C. Smith and Frances Strain. He married Sarah Catherine Townsend on October 26, 1879 in Tama County, Iowa.

"William Henry Smith passed away at his home on Ross Lane at an early hour Sunday morning, after an illness covering the past two years. Mr. Smith was born in Illinois on December 20, 1849 and came to southern Oregon in 1917, living most of the time near Beagle. He was a member of the Church of Christ and had acquired many friends who will mourn his passing.

He leaves four sons, Fred Smith of Central Point; Tom Smith and Charles Smith of Medford; Henry Smith of Washington; three daughters, Mrs. Clyde Mose of Route 2, Medford; Mrs. Albert Bingham of Eagle Point; and Mrs. J. D. Blackman of Rogue River; also 18 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services, under direction of the Perl Funeral Home, were held at the Antioch Cemetery this afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. Earl McKay of the Church of Christ officiating."
