Mary Adkins Gassaway
Born February 28, 1913, near Danville, VA, she resided in North Carolina until she and her husband, Floyd Bill Gassaway bought Sanford-Brown Business College in 1944. She sold the College in 1981, but remained in an advisory position as President Emeritus until 1992. Mary is survived by two sons, Bill (Judee Kohm) of Florida and Tom (Virginia Monaco) of St. Louis. She had two grandsons, Scott (Melissa Miller) and Eric T. and one granddaughter, Carrie. She is also survived by sixteen nieces and nephews, and many friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Bill Gassaway. She was active in the Northwest Chamber of Commerce, serving as secretary from 1981 to 1990. She was a member of St. Louis Area Business and Professional Women, St. Louis Area Business Teachers Association, and Christ Memorial Baptist Church. She volunteered for 23 years at the James S. McDonnell USO and received a citation for her work there from President Bush. Services: Funeral services at ORTMANN-STIPANOVICH Funeral Home, 12444 Olive Boulevard, Creve Coeur, Thursday, June 3, 10 a.m. Visitation Wednesday, June 2, 2-8 p.m. Burial at Jefferson Barracks Cemetery. Donations may be made to James S. McDonnell USO, Box 10367, St. Louis, MO 63145 or the charity of your choice.
