Lilly Adkins Powell, 85, of Stuart and formerly of Ridgeway, died Tuesday, February 29, 2000, at Blue Ridge Nursing Center in Stuart. She was born December 26, 1914, in Danville, and was a daughter of the late Carroll Kemper Adkins and Mary Elizabeth Bateman Adkins. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Broaddus Powell, in 1973. Surviving are two daughters, Dale P. McCrickard of Ridgeway and Evelyn P. Kirts of Smithfield; two sisters, Mary Gassaway of St. Louis, Mo., and Iris Guthrie of Taft, Tex.; and one grandson. The funeral was held Thursday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services chapel with the Rev. Douglas Ramsey officiating. Burial was in Mountain View Cemetery in Ridgeway. Pallbearers were Bennie Brooks, Wesley Brooks, Larry Brooks, Paris Carter, Wayne Dodson and Dennis Hedrick.
