Dorothy (Hawkins) Craven, 80, went home to be with the Lord at 4:00 am Saturday, November 26, 2011, at the Peachtree Centre Facility in Gaffney, SC.
Native of Cherokee County, born May 17, 1931, she was the daughter of the late James Bonner Hawkins and Hattie (Byars) Hawkins, and wife of the late John Ellis Craven, Jr.
Mrs. Craven was a retired retail worker from Belk's, a homemaker, and a long time member of the Cherokee Avenue Baptist Church in Gaffney.
Mrs. Craven is survived by two daughters, Charlene Craven Rhodes and husband, Danny, of Anderson, SC, Cindy Craven Wicht and husband, Mac, of Gaffney, SC; two sons, John Ellis Craven, III and wife, Peggy, Wade Douglas Craven and wife Alicia, both of Blacksburg, SC; three grandchildren, John W. Rhodes of Greenville, SC, Christine Marie Wicht of Gaffney, and Paula Le Ann Craven of Blacksburg; a special niece, Frances Clary, who was like a sister; and her beloved dog, Rosie.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by seven sisters, Callie Hawkins Blackwell, Mable Hawkins Patrick, Beadie Hawkins McCraw, Grace Hawkins, Eva Lee Hawkins Lester, Olivett Hawkins Blanton, and Ruth Hawkins Goforth; and two brothers, James Bonner Hawkins and Joseph Hawkins.
Funeral services were held Monday, November 28, 2011, 12:00 pm, Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel, Gaffney, SC, conducted by Dr. Clyde Thomas.
Interment was in Oakland Cemetery following the service.
Visitation was prior to the service Monday, November 28, 2011, 11:00 am - 12:00 pm, at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, donations could be made to the Cherokee County Humane Society.
